Abu Dhabi announces new alcohol consumption rules

The tourism authority of Abu Dhabi has issued a new set of rules for selling alcoholic beverages, and businesses have been given six months to comply with them. The guidelines were created to improve quality standards in the tourism industry and ensure the safety of both consumers and suppliers. The Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi has specified the technical and ingredient requirements for alcoholic beverages in an advisory sent to retail shop managers and distribution companies

The minimum alcohol strength required by the DCT policy is 0.5%. Beer, with the exception of caramel, should not contain any artificial sweeteners, flavors, or colorants. Wine, on the other hand, should not have any taste or smell of vinegar. Clean containers that can "protect it from pollution and damage" should also be used to package the drinks. The labels must specify all information regarding the ingredients, origin, manufacturer, shelf life, and alcohol percentage. Additional information regarding the types of alcohol used, packaging, transportation, and storage were also covered by the regulations. Distributors and retail establishments have six months to make any necessary adjustments. Violators will be subject to legal action.
