The people who deceive consumers through advertisements and promotions should confront detainment and a fine of up to Dh 500,000, the UAE Public Prosecution has cautioned. The Public Prosecution noted that the punishment is as per Article 48 of the Federal Decree-Law No. 34 of 2021 relating to Combatting Rumours and Cybercrimes. Imprisonment and a fine of at least Dh 20,000 and not more than Dh 500,000, or one of the two, will be the punishment of any individual who, through data networks, Information Technology solutions, or online platforms, commits the crime. The punitive measure is applicable to those promoting goods or services through misleading advertisements or using false data. The law also covers advertising, promoting, handling, or managing in any form, or empowering the managing in a virtual or digital currency.
