Travelling to Europe has become much more convenient for GCC and Indian visitors following the European Commission's approval of new regulations for the issuance of Schengen visas. Citizens of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, and India who live in their home countries now benefit from these changes. Saudi, Bahraini, and Omani nationals will have access to multiple-entry visas, allowing travel to 29 European countries using the same visa within five years. This significant simplification of the Schengen visa process provides first-time applicants with a five-year, multiple-entry visa, easing the stress of frequent applications.
The European Commission's adoption of these new rules for Saudi, Bahraini, and Omani nationals marks a key step in promoting people-to-people contacts and facilitating exchanges between the EU and GCC citizens. Additionally, Kuwaitis are eligible for long-term, multi-entry Schengen visas valid for five years, while UAE nationals enjoy visa-free travel to the Schengen nations for up to three months at a time. However, UAE residents must still obtain a Schengen visa. The delegation of the European Union in GCC announced these changes, emphasizing their importance in fostering closer ties between the regions.
For Indian travelers, the European Commission has introduced specific rules allowing for a two-year Schengen visa, a notable improvement from previous shorter validity periods. To qualify, applicants must have obtained and used two Schengen visas within the last three years. Successful use of the two-year visa can lead to eligibility for a five-year visa, provided passport validity is maintained. This development comes under the EU-India Common Agenda on Migration and Mobility, aiming for comprehensive cooperation on migration policy and enhancing people-to-people contacts. Schengen visas allow holders to travel freely within the Schengen area for short stays, making the travel experience smoother and more accessible for GCC and Indian visitors.
